Nose and face studies.

 Just thought I'd do some nose and face studies, then apply them to some made up faces...I often forget to do life drawing, whether live or from photos, but I think it's the most important practice for all artists.

It's getting close to Halloween, and I love movie monsters, so here are a couple Illustrator studies of my favorite creatures.

Girls...mostly.

Here's a couple pages of girls, mostly nudes, which proves I have no distinct style...I like graphic, I like anatomical, and I like everything in between...except ANIME!

Owls...ish

A friend had asked me to draw her an owl...MONTHS ago, and despite work keeping me too busy to get it done for her on time, I couldn't shake the idea without a couple pages of doodles.

Randomness

As usual, I get busy and forget that I have a blog...sorry! I could say I've seen the error of my ways, and will start regular posts from now on, but that's not gonna happen. I will continue to sporadically post random images...THAT you can take to the bank:)

learning Illustrator

Recent gigs, in which I've been charged with designing logos for roller derby groups, in the Vancouver area, have forced me to expand my skill set to include Illustrator as a design tool. I won't say I'm all the way to where I'd like to be, but here are the first couple attempts with the software, which, as counter intuitive as it is as a drawing program, can get fun to use once you learn a couple of the tools

Mainland Misfits Logo

This was a logo done for the one co-ed flat track roller derby league in the lower mainland. The bottom design was almost clean, when we realized the co-edness needed to be addressed, so the other drawings are my random thought process, with the colour design at the top being the final. (although it's not the final colours used)

CS5 doodles

I'm definitely still a 'sketchbook pro' guy, but the school hooked up a cintiq for me to do demos, and it's equipped with photoshop...I don't mind it.

Three Derby Logos

Here are three more roller derby logos: The top one for Raw Meat Vancouver, the middle is The Vancouver Murder, mens roller derby team, and the bottom is for me, Yogi Bearings.

Clash of the Tartans

I've been doing a lot of roller derby logos lately, and this one was special, the fierce woman portrayed in the studies and final image, was the reason for, and beneficiary of the benefit bout 'Clash of the Tartans'. Highland Maim, get well soon!
